With this film I want viewers to be amused but also feel uneasy. The surreal contrasts of vivid eyes seemingly in danger of flying wood chunks, cold silence punctuated by the violent crashing sounds of maul against wood, independent yet synchronized eyes, and focused versus blurred images all help to create the strange and disquieting atmosphere in Flinch. Do the eyes belong to the woodpile or are they windows into someone’s psyche? Why is the woodcutter indifferent to the presence of the eyes?. (Less)
