Xcorps Action Sports Show #7.) "SPEEDSKI" seg.3 - You see all the action and hear all the music in this custom episode of The X Corps called SPEEDSKI which introduces the audience to hidden sports like the Long Beach to Catalina open ocean water ski races and a new music video from Maverick recording artist Michelle Branch. The show opens with XC host Jason Lazo jammin' some of his own tunes with his guitar on the beach at Swamis in Encinitas Ca.
Jason intro's a segment on the whacked sport of open ocean high speed water skiing - The Catalina races - held once a year out of Long Beach harbor. Participants in the race sign up for a 63 mile round trip straight line tour to the island of Catalina and back pulled by high performance 1200 horse power race boats. Most racers go non-stop completing the circuit in less than 1 hour! Average speed is 70mph.
We shot this segment strapped into an open door rock 'n' roll helicopter the Boeing MD-500 with pilot Larry Etchandy at the controls. Larry is crazy and used to shooting big Hollywood films and he gave us one wild ride resulting in some great action footage. Try flying backwards and sideways just feet in front of an open throttled race boat! New tunes from Maverick artist Paul Oakenfold powers the action. Interviews with the winning skiers on board the ocean liner Queen Mary after the races. See www.xcorpstv.com or www.catalinaskirace.com for more info.
After that Jason jams another tune on the beach and intros a fun segment on a new way to roll with a product from Australia called The Wheelman. Eric The X Guru Ducharme hosts this segment shot at his pad in Encinitas Ca where several of the motorized units were being assembled. Eric talks to inventor Grant Taylor about the new 46 cc rim drive 4 stroke foot motorcycle and gets to ride one too. This Xcorps episode introduces this new product, which will be popping up on the streets and trails here soon. Extremist and snowboard legend Shawn Farmer is on hand here as well helping with the assembly. If you can stand on a snowboard or ride a skateboard you can roll on a Wheelman says Grant. Action shots of Eric and other riders on the street, track and off road. New music from Maverick band Unloco pumps it up here too. See www.wheelman.com.au for more info.
After that Jason takes us to a new video from the talented Michelle Branch who sings her new tune "Goodbye to You". Check out her wheels, and the forest fire, and the fish! Then Jason opens a new segment that will appear regularly on the show called "A Skate Odessey" - an action film mix from our world of skate. More hard tunes from Unloco and see Erics Moab Utah wipeout! The show wraps with Jason laying down another tune from Swamis Beach along with a little more speed ski footage and a promise of more adrenaline laced episodes. See the action and hear the music-join the Xcorps. Additional music by One Side Zero.

http://www.watcha3.com - Sick Of Sarah 'Daisies' - Sick Of Sarah began in Minneapolis, MN in April 2005 as an all-female band with catchy hooks, unique lyrics and thoughtful, well-crafted music. The band displays talent, passion, and an ever-present sense of humor that shapes many of their songs. They combine sympathetic acoustic moments with driving electric rock, often in the same song. With influences ranging from John Fogerty to Joan Jett, Sleater-Kinney to Vanessa Carlton, Sick Of Sarah brings an energy and blended alternative pop-rock style that has listeners singing along after the first chorus.
Guitar player, lead singer, and songwriter, Abisha Uhl, 25, has an ear for pop, a mouth for rock, and an attitude for punk. She first picked up a guitar at age 13 in Okinawa, Japan where she lived until she was 18 and moved to the US. She began listening to Michelle Branch and Vanessa Carlton, which led to her becoming a solo artist in the Minneapolis area and eventually becoming a founding member of Sick Of Sarah. Her lyrics speak maturely and sometimes humorously of love, loss, and often nothing at all, but regardless of the topic, Abisha will sing every song like it’s the greatest thing anyone’s ever heard.
Lead guitarist and back-up vocalist, Katie Murphy, 24, was always involved in some type of musical endeavor growing up in south St. Paul, MN. She began teaching herself piano at 15 years of age and acoustic guitar when she was 16. Always looking to advance her skills, she picked up the electric guitar early on during the course of Sick Of Sarah's construction, per the band’s request, and has since found that flexibility and creativity are the keys to her performance. Katie lists Jewel and John Fogerty as her biggest musical influences.
Jessie Farmer, 26, originally from Peoria, IL, decided on music as her passion at the tender age of 7 when a piano was introduced into her home. She learned both the guitar and drums after that. She found success as the touring bass player for prominent Minneapolis punk rock band, Babes In Toyland in 2000. Jessie had sworn off the bass just before she was approached by lead singer Abisha to play in her new band. Jessie cowrites many of SOS’s songs. Influenced by Joan Jett and the Mamas And The Papas, Jessie brings a natural, seasoned rock tone as the bass player and back-up vocalist.
Drummer Brooke Svanes, 23, began playing drums when she was 11 years old and since then has become a meticulously skillful drummer. She has been in bands all through her teen years in Bismarck, ND and now calls Minneapolis her home. She may look at ease behind a set, but do not be fooled by her calmness; you are guaranteed to feel her Sleater-Kinney influence as well as a decade of practice in every beat she makes.
You may have noticed there is no one named Sarah in the band. The namesake for the band is in fact a Sarah--the lead singer's former roommate who stated one day she was just plain sick of her own name. It caught the girls' ears and then caught on. . (Less)

“Do you know the art of auctioneering...?
“Auction Day” captures a precious national asset that may soon disappear. Filmed in Wales in the UK the film shows a community of farmers, sheep dealers and auctioneers on ‘market day’.
Farmers with storybook faces nod, wink and send secret signals to the auctioneer. They are 21st century shepherds with a heritage rooted in biblical times. Dealers with canny eyes shake hands and heads, looking for bargain lots.
Bewildered sheep are offloaded from trucks and trailers to be prodded, preened and then pushed into the sales arena. Their teeth, wool, the shape of their heads and their pedigree are all carefully assessed before the bidding begins.
Finally, the sold ewes and rams are packed into vans and are on their way to new home ground. Their lambs will survive tough lives in the high hills and mountains and will be coming to another “Auction Day” next year to continue the farmers cycle that holds the countryside as a unique national asset.
In the film, the relationship between farmer and wily auctioneer, part of a long heritage of symbiotic friendships, is delightfully revealed in humorous cameos. The gentle auctioneer, Meirion Morris, tells his “sheep tales” with delightful charm.
Total running time 17 mins.

Namibia is one of the last refuges of the remaining world Cheetah population. A quarter of all the remaining cats are found in Nambia. It is estimated their numbers globally have declined by over 90% in the last 100 years. A local thorn bush species is invading the savannah in the country, causing over US$90 million each year in lost revenue to Namibian farmers, whilst also destroying the native habitat of the fastest of the cats. Now the Cheetah Conservation Fund has pioneered a scheme to clear the thorn bush and turn it into cheap fuel briquettes. The project is creating jobs at the same time as helping to restore the hunting ground of the endangered cheetah. (Less)
