Xcorps Action Sports Show #39.) "SPEED" seg.3 - Another all American horsepower episode this one called SPEED with Xcorps cameras rolling at The Bonneville Salt Flats Speedway Utah for SPEEDWEEK with the fastest cars on the planet going for land speed records!
X man and guest host Rat Sult rolled the full size X motor coach north from San Diego to Utah's western edge exiting at the historic and beautifully vast Bonneville salt speed track, which extends for more than 30 miles- dead flat and ready for speed! The 'Speed Week' event is sanctioned and organized by the SCTA - Southern California Timing Association - and is held every year at the Utah state park, near Wendover Utah on US-80, where an elite group of worldwide motor sports speed enthusiasts meet to go for the records in their custom machines.
The show opens with some scenic road shots and a look at the RIVE provided band The Clay People hammering their high octane song 'Supersonic Overdrive' in their cool retro 60's video. Nice fit with those dancing girls! XC host Jason Lazo's new show theme song carries the action into segment one with Rat driving his mega coach on the salt and land speed record holder Mike Nish driving the Royal Purple streamliner car full tilt on the flats!
After the break Rat checks out the salt track and heads for the starting line where high horse vehicles in all classes from top fuel dragsters to classic street muscle to modified trucks and street bikes lining up for take off! See the full speed runs and hear the actual official times read over the radio sets. Suburban Noize band Dirtball rolls right with the action including a high speed out of control hood losing spin across the tricky salt crystal track. Check out a classic 1970 Plymouth Super Bird ready for takeoff and a '71 Camero doing a spin out at over 250MPH launching the car end over end into the desert air! Close ups of the wrecked rig here too!
The next segment takes a look at what the street bikes can do and Rat talks to Richard Thomason owner of Danny Boy 2 - a modified airplane fuel drop tank - who talks about what it's like to drive all out! See his max speed in this unique speed class all overseen by the SCTA.
After that the Sub NoiZe records band Mondo Generator jams the flats to a collage of motor cars from Buicks and Fords to rice rockets to turbine powered never imagined vehicles in all sizes and colors. Rat takes a looks at the fastest car of the week - the awesome Nish Motor sports Royal Purple streamliner ripping past the 370 MPH mark! All American custom engineered! Rat cruises the pits and talks to driver Mike Nish who talks about his speed runs. Insane shots here looking out the back of his car as well as a POV dash-cam showing how big his eyes get at these white knuckle speeds! It's all about adrenaline here on The Xcorps!
The action and music continue with a look at the semi truck class of speed demons. Watch a double diesel engine custom modified trailer-hauler take off and blast down the salt track at over 229 MPH! That's truckin!
The show wraps with show host Rat Sult on the track with an un-authorized race of his own driving in the motor home class! See his full sized rig roll against a vintage South Wind coach at floor pedal speed! High octane smiles here for sure! That's the way we roll on The Xcorps!

Xcorps Action Sports Show #12.) "LUGE" seg.3 - Xcorps cameras were the only ones rolling at a grassroots guerilla style gravity sports event we call The Barrett Junction Shootout featuring downhill luge, stand up skate board, inline speed skate and gravity bike racing held at Barrett Junction near San Diego Ca. Firestorms raged as gravity riders from around the world zipped on leathers, checked trucks and let it go at the IGSA sanctioned event organized by rider Frank Waterhouse who broke the course record on the closed stretch of highway not far from the Mexican border.
Xcorps host Bob Woodard opens the show from San Diego riding the Speed Skater street luge equipped with the new SkateBrake. Not bad for a first run Bob! Our cameras were as committed as all those who showed up at the event amid warnings that out of control firestorms burned on all sides. Lots of big smoke and fire shots here as well as a dedication to all the victims of the biggest fire in San Diego history.
Papa Roach and Lo-Tel pump the action with X and Gravity Games winners like Rat Sult and the ever-loved Kludy pushing 60mph down the hair pinned and cliff edged coarse which offered no room for error. See riders in their best speed tucks and a sick head over heels wipeout by gravity bike rider Noah Rutherford who lives to tell the Xcorps cameras all about it. Yes we slo-mo the magic moments for our viewing audience. Noah split the bikes rims and will recover.
Inline speedskaters Dave Lambert and downhill champ George Merkert talk about their realm of the event and invite other skaters to go for speed while Donald Orlando shows off his 84mm 6 wheel skates he got up to 58mph! Nice. After that Xcorps guest host and gravity champ Rat Sult talks to the fiercest female competitor in the league Stacy Allen from Oklahoma and asks her how she got into the sport. Music from the Rolling Stones and Dr. Dre back the piece.
After the break speed board legend Kludy talks to the camera about the effects of big winds on course speed. Frank Homemade Waterhouse wraps the shootout with his thoughts, more race action and some powerful shots taken from space of the fires that surrounded the event closing all exit roads. Many camped the night.
Bob Woodard takes another luge run and opens for Xcorps host Jason Lazo who is in Detroit hanging with the So Cal band NHOI - Never Heard Of It - who are playing Saint Andrews Hall in the rock city. Jason talks with the band about their tour and proceeds to blow the place up! See the show for the fun details. Remember you saw this band first on Xcorps!
After that Jason intros a new video from our friends at Rive video promotions featuring music from Relapse Records band UNSANE. WARNING - fierce face grinding bone breaking skate wipeouts here. Wear your bloody helmit!
The show wraps with more skate punishment from Rive along with host Bob Woodard promising more action and music from the corps next week. Additional music by the Deftones and Drowning Pool. See The Action - Hear The Music - Join The Xcorps!

Xcorps Action Sports Show #45.)"SKATEPIPE"-seg4- The Xcorps HD shoot crew led by on host Jason Lazo rolled into the small southern California town of Upland to meet pool skate legend Steve Alba AKA Salba at the Pipeline skate park- home and roots to some of the best Vert skaters on the planet- for the next episode of Xcorps to be called SKATEPIPE.
This next XC show will feature Steve Alba ripping the Upland Pipe on his board along with many other talented locals catching massive air off the 20-foot tall 360-degree concrete tube. The Pipe is part of 10,000 sq. foot Skate Park, which opened to the public in 2002 and was designed by Steve Alba and California Skate parks Purkiss Rose.
One of the coolest skate zones we have shot, the Upland park is a holy zone modeled after the original Upland skate park of the 1970s-which was modeled after the original Baldy Flood Control Pipe- and contains all aspects of bank/vert skating starting with a mini-ramp take off ledge rolling into a phat metal coped half-pipe leading into a 20 foot full-pipe and ending in a deep swimming pool size vert bowl. YiKes!
Its a smooth fast speed zone and its not for beginners! Skate wheels sing there like banshee devil dogs and bone crunching freefalls happen easy! Xcorps cams captured some great action including shots from a POV cam attached to Salbas helmet. The Xcorps shoot crew-included network Emmy winner Dave Alvarez and producer Sundarajan also snagging HD shot action.
Xcorps host Jason Lazo talked with Steve Alba who lives in Upland about the killer park he helped design and his past and present career in the world of skateboarding. Jason also spoke to other skaters including a hot chick looping the tube and some ripper groms going full overhead! What will they morph into!??
Also in this episode is cool video footage of Steve Alba jamming with his band in a local So Cal club. Nice custom soundtrack to the action from Steve. Great new music videos from RIVE promotions and Suburban Noize Records rolls the action in this special Xcorps show.
Rounding out the shots in this episode will be some never before televised 16mm B&W film footage shot at a Pocatello Idaho Skatepark in 1980 by XC producer Stu Edmondson. Who knew they were skating in Idaho back then never mind a skate park!

Audio-visual installation in English, German and Japanese ASAGAO-PREVIEW.
An artist's text spoken by three women's voices in three different languages leads through a digital composition about a certain relation between the human being and nature (as a gigantic force) in a mechanized world. The artist shows the human being as an alienated and remote-controlled figure that strolls through shopping malls and finds itself exposed to nature and a world, based on urban areas - traffic - mass medias. The human body starts to float, losing individualism and independence...

Xcorps Action Sports Show #7.) "SPEEDSKI" seg.3 - You see all the action and hear all the music in this custom episode of The X Corps called SPEEDSKI which introduces the audience to hidden sports like the Long Beach to Catalina open ocean water ski races and a new music video from Maverick recording artist Michelle Branch. The show opens with XC host Jason Lazo jammin' some of his own tunes with his guitar on the beach at Swamis in Encinitas Ca.
Jason intro's a segment on the whacked sport of open ocean high speed water skiing - The Catalina races - held once a year out of Long Beach harbor. Participants in the race sign up for a 63 mile round trip straight line tour to the island of Catalina and back pulled by high performance 1200 horse power race boats. Most racers go non-stop completing the circuit in less than 1 hour! Average speed is 70mph.
We shot this segment strapped into an open door rock 'n' roll helicopter the Boeing MD-500 with pilot Larry Etchandy at the controls. Larry is crazy and used to shooting big Hollywood films and he gave us one wild ride resulting in some great action footage. Try flying backwards and sideways just feet in front of an open throttled race boat! New tunes from Maverick artist Paul Oakenfold powers the action. Interviews with the winning skiers on board the ocean liner Queen Mary after the races. See www.xcorpstv.com or www.catalinaskirace.com for more info.
After that Jason jams another tune on the beach and intros a fun segment on a new way to roll with a product from Australia called The Wheelman. Eric The X Guru Ducharme hosts this segment shot at his pad in Encinitas Ca where several of the motorized units were being assembled. Eric talks to inventor Grant Taylor about the new 46 cc rim drive 4 stroke foot motorcycle and gets to ride one too. This Xcorps episode introduces this new product, which will be popping up on the streets and trails here soon. Extremist and snowboard legend Shawn Farmer is on hand here as well helping with the assembly. If you can stand on a snowboard or ride a skateboard you can roll on a Wheelman says Grant. Action shots of Eric and other riders on the street, track and off road. New music from Maverick band Unloco pumps it up here too. See www.wheelman.com.au for more info.
After that Jason takes us to a new video from the talented Michelle Branch who sings her new tune "Goodbye to You". Check out her wheels, and the forest fire, and the fish! Then Jason opens a new segment that will appear regularly on the show called "A Skate Odessey" - an action film mix from our world of skate. More hard tunes from Unloco and see Erics Moab Utah wipeout! The show wraps with Jason laying down another tune from Swamis Beach along with a little more speed ski footage and a promise of more adrenaline laced episodes. The Making of "Briny Deep":
"We shot the video over two days, along the rocky Eastern coastline of Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii. I wanted it to look more like the coastline of the Pacific Northwest or New England. I always had cliffs in mind ever since I first heard the song. We were fortunate enough to shoot on a couple of overcast days where the water was really stirred up. Most of the Eastern coast of the big island has scenery like this but one of our main concerns was to find a stretch where you wouldn't see any homes in the background.
The only crew involved were RaVani and myself. I threw my camera gear in a bag and brought a portable radio for playback. RaVani sang to a temp mix of the song in which the chorus had not been recorded yet. Luckily once the song was complete it synched up perfectly.
The band was in a transitional period and not all of the members were available for the shoot. Also, I thought it would be more appropriate to focus on RaVani due to the mystical and thematic elements of the song which center around a relationship between a mother and daughter.
The limited crew, however, worked out for the best because it's quite dangerous out around the cliffs. RaVani actually worried me a few times when she stepped out on the edge without warning me. A couple times I thought she was going right over. It made for some great shots but I wouldn't suggest it to anyone. We were probably lucky. The "lack" of personnel may have even helped RaVani a bit because I think it allowed her to feel more comfortable to lip synch without a bunch of people watching.
"Briny Deep" is my favorite Technical Difficulties song and I took my inspiration for the video from the feelings it stirs up inside me when I watch them perform it live. It's one of those songs that you hear and are immediately drawn into because of the composition and the intensity of the vocals. As you look deeper into the song and read the lyrics you grow to appreciate the story that it tells, which is quite tragic. The song would evoke images in my head that really stuck with me. The thread between the music and the lyrics is very strong. It was a challenge for me to attempt the video. I was nervous that it would fall short of the song's power and impact. I merely wanted to create imagery to accompany the song, not try to upstage it.
My take on the song... although RaVani could explain it much better then I could ever hope to... is this; The song revolves around a mother and daughter who are lost at sea at night. The mother has mystical powers which she transfers to her daughter so that she can survive the danger. The quieter portions of the song is when the mother is assuring her daughter that all will be okay and not to fear. The chorus expresses the mothers attempts to keep them both safe to on avail, and the grief of having to give up her powers. In the end the mother drowns in the briny, deep, dark, cold water.
In the video I tried to represent these emotions without showing them literally. The doll representing the daughter and the boat representing being lost at sea. RaVani is playing the part of the mother and her character is reflecting on the tragic events and trying to control the water, to push is back. She is remembering and pining for her daughter. In the end, when she disappears from the cliff, it is meant to represent that she is a spirit haunting the cliff on the sea where she drowned.
The song is so pure and I wanted the visuals to stay along those lines so I shot in black and white because I wanted to go for a stark, dreamlike quality. Like the memory of something sad or tragic. The colors in Hawaii can be quite vivid with a lot of green and blue. I wanted to get as far away from that kind of a look as possible, since we had just captured the island feel in another Technical Difficulties video "Jungle" and because "Briny Deep" has such a dark tone to it, it just felt right to make this way. I used an Arri 16mm BL and my trusty Minolta Autometer for exposures. The 16mm grainy film gave it the haunting look that I really wanted. For other sections of the video, I used a Canon GL 1 Mini DV camera and I cut the whole thing on Final Cut Pro.
This video was really difficult to edit and was a tremendous challenge for me. It went through a lot of stages before I felt comfortable with it. Telling a story in a music video isn't the same as telling a story in a short or feature film. With music videos, there are so many possibilities. In the end, it definitely took on a life of it's own. It turned out better than expected, although, there are some more things I would have liked to have been able to do. Like shooting on a boat in the middle of the ocean at night in a raging sea... but that's a whole different kind of budget. (Less)

The show opens with speed junkie host Rat Sult fully involved and charging his number 4 car to the lead of the screaming pack. These RC racers start at over a thousand dollars and take remote control racing to the 60 mph 30 foot airborne level. Lots of sweet crashes here too. Rat talks with pro racer Paul Coleman about his strategy for a win. Maverick Records band Unloco along with Suburban Noize label band KottonMouth Kings keep the piece off the ground and rolling hard.
In the next segment Rat thros to host Bob Woodard seaside at the Carlsbad lagoon testing the X Board - a new H2o jet powered surfboard from a company called CyberAds. Watch sweet bikini clad girls riding these X boards fast and smooth in California and Maui Hawaii edited to a cool and freaky animated video from Rive Video featuring the RoadRunner Records band To My Surprise doing their song In The Mood. After the break Rat returns to intro XC host Eric the X Guru Ducharme in Washington D.C. covering the sport of Disc Golf at one of the oldest disc courses in the U.S. - Calvert - near the University of Maryland campus. http://www.a3film.com - Director Neill Blomkamp teams with producer Peter Jackson for this tale of extraterrestrial refugees stuck in contemporary South Africa. It's been thirty years since the aliens made first contact, but there was never any attack from the skies, nor any profound technological revelation capable of advancing our society. Instead, the aliens were treated as refugees. They were the last of their kind, and in order to accommodate them the government of South Africa set up a makeshift home in District 9 as politicians and world leaders debated how to handle the situation. As the humans begin to grow wary of the unwelcomed intruders, a private company called Multi-National United (MNU) is assigned the task of controlling the aliens. But MNU is less interested in the aliens' welfare than attempting to understand how their weaponry works. Should they manage to make that breakthrough, they will receive tremendous profits to fund their research. Unfortunately, the highly advanced weaponry requires alien DNA to activate. When MNU field operative Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) contracts an unusual virus that causes his DNA to mutate, the tensions between the aliens and the humans intensifies. Wikus is the key to unlocking the alien's technology, and he quickly becomes the most wanted man on the planet. Ostracized and isolated, Wikus retreats to District 9 in a desperate bid to shake his dogged pursuers. Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide. (Less)
