Xcorps Action Sports Show #41.) "HAWAIIMANA" - seg2 - The Xcorps goes BIG ALOHA with host Jason Lazo back in Hawaii covering a mix of cool action X fitness events sponsored by mega nutrition maker HAWAIIMANA producer of the HawaiiMana Challenge.
From the start the show goes BIG with wild shots of tow in surfer Garrett McNamara outrunning locomotive waves at Jaws and Teahoopu Tahiti backed by tunes from MOWER. Hang on! The scenes are mellow here too with sweet Oahu island shots of rainbow framed beaches under the waving coconut palms. So Ono!
Jason introduces team HawaiiMana training on the shore and under the water! See their unique method of building strength and lung power using just a big rock! Great UW shots of turtles and fish in their element mixed with irie tunes from reggae Electric Avenue pop master Eddy Grant.
After the break Jason goes from SCUBA to outrigger canoe and then on to the North Shore of Oahu to hang at the Hawaiimana beach crib and some surfing by team members Alisha and Davey Boy Gonsalves, Jason Miller and Oleema Miller.
Then the X cams roll down the beach to V-LAND to catch rising NSSA surf champ Carissa Moore carving and rippin! Jason meets her on the beach for a little interview. She how she gets her training and hear her fun laugh! Then it's back to Garrett towing into another massive thunder tube followed with a smooth exit rolling tight with another Eddy Grant tune - Reparation.
Jason samples some local flavor and crosses the island again to meet with open ocean stand up paddleboard master Aaron Napoleon who leads the Xcams offshore to the turbulent Molokai Channel for a look at this emerging challenging sport! It was a challenge getting these shots in the rolling big waves as Aaron paddled his 15-foot board up and down the deep blue victory at sea swells all captured for our viewers in HD!
Everyone onboard was hanging tight as Aaron paddled the huge water edited with a fresh new music video from San Diego band My American Heart. Nice fit! Jason talks with the HawaiiMana man back at the boat. See what he says about the ride!
The next segment rolls back to the shoreline to catch the voice of Hawaii fitness man Joe Teipel body surfing Sandys beach in style! Jason talks with the waterman about HawaiiMana and the island spirit of Aloha. Cool shots of the famous Halona blowhole going off here too!
The show closes out with Jason back in SCUBA gear and a beach sunset near Diamond Head talking with HawaiiMana girl Kristin Austin doing some Yoga moves. Just another day in paradise for those who join The Xcorps!

Xcorps Action Sports Show #40.) "HELLS CANYON" - seg2 - The Xcorps TV crew rolled 1000 miles north of San Diego to shoot in Hells Canyon Idaho on the Snake River - a remote canyon - at 7000 feet is deeper than the Grand Canyon!
The HD cams rolled BIG on Xcorps host Jason Lazo as he explored the pristine wilderness and ripped UP wild rapids on a 700HP twin 350 jet-boat supplied by Killgore Adventures based in the nearby town of White Bird Idaho-population 150! Jet-boat captain Eric Pardue piloted the custom and super rugged aluminum boat 'Moonshine' with cool skill as up to 5 cameras captured the X action. Also Euro TV producer Radomir Krkic filmed for his show "Fishing World" currenlly airing in Europe.
Idaho is a state that contains some of the most pristine and primitive outdoor areas in the U.S. and The Xcorps felt right at home there! HD cams recorded more than 100 miles of scenic wild Snake River home to sports game fish like Rainbow and Steelhead trout, Salmon, Bass and the massive and primitive river Sturgeon.
Jason baited a line for this monster fish reeling in a near record 9-foot 300 lb beast with great video shots resulting including some from the infamous XC underwater cam! The big fish was released tired but unharmed after the catch.

http://www.a3film.com - In mid- to late-'60s Britain, an unusual yet colorful subculture sprang up and thrived as a product of the upswing in British pop music, only to meet its doom within a few short years. Though the BBC functioned as the country's main source of news and music, its programmers offered very little airtime to rock & roll -- which left an overwhelming need unfulfilled. In response, small bands of "pirate" radio enthusiasts set up broadcasting towers on boats just outside of English boundary waters, and transmitted signals to an estimated 25 million listeners, 24 hours a day and seven days per week. Unsurprisingly, the DJs who took charge of these broadcasts could rival just about anyone in terms of flamboyance and outsized personalities. With The Boat That Rocked, writer-director Richard Curtis (Love Actually) travels back to the Swinging Sixties and takes a headfirst plunge into this colorful realm. The story opens in 1966, aboard a rusty fishing trawler christened Radio Rock and equipped with pirate broadcasting equipment. Here, the slightly daft elitist Quentin (Bill Nighy) presides over a motley crew of joint-toking, s*x-hungry disc jockeys including Dave (Nick Frost), a heavyset boob who nevertheless considers himself a hot property with women and loves to chase skirts; "The Count" (Philip Seymour Hoffman), an American DJ who aspires to be the first person to drop an F-bomb over the British airwaves; the gloom-laden Irishman Simon (Chris O'Dowd); bonked-out hipster Thick Kevin (Tom Brooke); womanizer Mark (Tom Wisdom); Angus (Rhys Darby), a New Zealander whom nobody likes; and the only female member of the group, lesbian cook Felicity (Katherine Parkinson). These misfits pull off quite a show -- enough of one that they attain the status of national idols for the youth culture -- but the super-conservative government minister Dormandy (Kenneth Branagh) detests the whole business and will do almost anything in his power to shut them down. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Xcorps Action Sports Show #7.) "SPEEDSKI" seg.3 - You see all the action and hear all the music in this custom episode of The X Corps called SPEEDSKI which introduces the audience to hidden sports like the Long Beach to Catalina open ocean water ski races and a new music video from Maverick recording artist Michelle Branch. The show opens with XC host Jason Lazo jammin' some of his own tunes with his guitar on the beach at Swamis in Encinitas Ca.
Jason intro's a segment on the whacked sport of open ocean high speed water skiing - The Catalina races - held once a year out of Long Beach harbor. Participants in the race sign up for a 63 mile round trip straight line tour to the island of Catalina and back pulled by high performance 1200 horse power race boats. Most racers go non-stop completing the circuit in less than 1 hour! Average speed is 70mph.
We shot this segment strapped into an open door rock 'n' roll helicopter the Boeing MD-500 with pilot Larry Etchandy at the controls. Larry is crazy and used to shooting big Hollywood films and he gave us one wild ride resulting in some great action footage. Try flying backwards and sideways just feet in front of an open throttled race boat! New tunes from Maverick artist Paul Oakenfold powers the action. Interviews with the winning skiers on board the ocean liner Queen Mary after the races. See www.xcorpstv.com or www.catalinaskirace.com for more info.
After that Jason jams another tune on the beach and intros a fun segment on a new way to roll with a product from Australia called The Wheelman. Eric The X Guru Ducharme hosts this segment shot at his pad in Encinitas Ca where several of the motorized units were being assembled. Eric talks to inventor Grant Taylor about the new 46 cc rim drive 4 stroke foot motorcycle and gets to ride one too. This Xcorps episode introduces this new product, which will be popping up on the streets and trails here soon. Extremist and snowboard legend Shawn Farmer is on hand here as well helping with the assembly. If you can stand on a snowboard or ride a skateboard you can roll on a Wheelman says Grant. Action shots of Eric and other riders on the street, track and off road. New music from Maverick band Unloco pumps it up here too. See www.wheelman.com.au for more info.
After that Jason takes us to a new video from the talented Michelle Branch who sings her new tune "Goodbye to You". Check out her wheels, and the forest fire, and the fish! Then Jason opens a new segment that will appear regularly on the show called "A Skate Odessey" - an action film mix from our world of skate. More hard tunes from Unloco and see Erics Moab Utah wipeout! The show wraps with Jason laying down another tune from Swamis Beach along with a little more speed ski footage and a promise of more adrenaline laced episodes. Xcorps Action Sports Show #8.) "SURF" - seg.3 - A sport as cool as riding a wave is the focus of this XC episode featuring a surf trip to the notorious island of Todos Santos off Ensenada Mexico and an exclusive interview with surf legend Gerry Lopez at his home in Maui Hawaii.
Hosts Jason Lazo and Roslyn Bradle open the show from the beach in Santa Monica Ca where Jason talks about the south of the border shoot taken with a group of San Diego surfers. Follow them as they cross the border and head for Ensenada Mexico overcoming challenges such as a boat breakdown 10 miles off the coast. See how they eventually reach and ride the open ocean monster waves at a break called Killers!
Also on this show we go to exotic Hawaii to the island of Maui to visit and talk with Pipeline surf legend Gerry Lopez who invited our cameras into his home and onto his surfboard! Yes we attached a H20 cam to his board for some fun shots of the master carving some turns at HoOkipa beach park. See these exclusive shots and hear what Gerry has to say about the early days of Pipeline and why he missed the 1st Pipeline Masters surf event. Included are clips of fellow surfer Corky Carroll in Huntington Beach Ca with his side of the story! Who do you believe? While at his house we asked Gerry what kind of surf junk he had stored in his garage and scored big by turning up the original board from the 1978 Warner Bros. cult movie Big Wednesday starring Gerry and actors Jan-Michael Vincent, William Katt and Gary Busey. See what else the XC cams find in his garage and check the sweet bikini clad native girl swimming in nearby crystal waters. Smooth island music here from the local band Paradyse c/o Outrigger Hotels.
After that it's back to California where Roslyn opens a segment with The X Guru - Eric Ducharme riding the new SiKK Bike - the worlds smallest motorcycle. Pretty SiKK and pretty fun!
Jason closes out the show from Todos Santos with a few more big waves along with a promise of the return of B.A.S.E. jumper Ray Murphy to the next show with his own version of SiKK action - jumping the sheer cliffs of Copper Canyon Mexico!
Music by Soul Hooligan/Diana King, Sea Lords, Screamin Seamen, Prom Kings and Chron. Respect the Ocean. Mahalo.

The Making of "Briny Deep":
"We shot the video over two days, along the rocky Eastern coastline of Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii. I wanted it to look more like the coastline of the Pacific Northwest or New England. I always had cliffs in mind ever since I first heard the song. We were fortunate enough to shoot on a couple of overcast days where the water was really stirred up. Most of the Eastern coast of the big island has scenery like this but one of our main concerns was to find a stretch where you wouldn't see any homes in the background.
The only crew involved were RaVani and myself. I threw my camera gear in a bag and brought a portable radio for playback. RaVani sang to a temp mix of the song in which the chorus had not been recorded yet. Luckily once the song was complete it synched up perfectly.
The band was in a transitional period and not all of the members were available for the shoot. Also, I thought it would be more appropriate to focus on RaVani due to the mystical and thematic elements of the song which center around a relationship between a mother and daughter.
The limited crew, however, worked out for the best because it's quite dangerous out around the cliffs. RaVani actually worried me a few times when she stepped out on the edge without warning me. A couple times I thought she was going right over. It made for some great shots but I wouldn't suggest it to anyone. We were probably lucky. The "lack" of personnel may have even helped RaVani a bit because I think it allowed her to feel more comfortable to lip synch without a bunch of people watching.
"Briny Deep" is my favorite Technical Difficulties song and I took my inspiration for the video from the feelings it stirs up inside me when I watch them perform it live. It's one of those songs that you hear and are immediately drawn into because of the composition and the intensity of the vocals. As you look deeper into the song and read the lyrics you grow to appreciate the story that it tells, which is quite tragic. The song would evoke images in my head that really stuck with me. The thread between the music and the lyrics is very strong. It was a challenge for me to attempt the video. I was nervous that it would fall short of the song's power and impact. I merely wanted to create imagery to accompany the song, not try to upstage it.
My take on the song... although RaVani could explain it much better then I could ever hope to... is this; The song revolves around a mother and daughter who are lost at sea at night. The mother has mystical powers which she transfers to her daughter so that she can survive the danger. The quieter portions of the song is when the mother is assuring her daughter that all will be okay and not to fear. The chorus expresses the mothers attempts to keep them both safe to on avail, and the grief of having to give up her powers. In the end the mother drowns in the briny, deep, dark, cold water.
In the video I tried to represent these emotions without showing them literally. The doll representing the daughter and the boat representing being lost at sea. RaVani is playing the part of the mother and her character is reflecting on the tragic events and trying to control the water, to push is back. She is remembering and pining for her daughter. In the end, when she disappears from the cliff, it is meant to represent that she is a spirit haunting the cliff on the sea where she drowned.
The song is so pure and I wanted the visuals to stay along those lines so I shot in black and white because I wanted to go for a stark, dreamlike quality. Like the memory of something sad or tragic. The colors in Hawaii can be quite vivid with a lot of green and blue. I wanted to get as far away from that kind of a look as possible, since we had just captured the island feel in another Technical Difficulties video "Jungle" and because "Briny Deep" has such a dark tone to it, it just felt right to make this way. I used an Arri 16mm BL and my trusty Minolta Autometer for exposures. The 16mm grainy film gave it the haunting look that I really wanted. For other sections of the video, I used a Canon GL 1 Mini DV camera and I cut the whole thing on Final Cut Pro.
This video was really difficult to edit and was a tremendous challenge for me. It went through a lot of stages before I felt comfortable with it. Telling a story in a music video isn't the same as telling a story in a short or feature film. With music videos, there are so many possibilities. In the end, it definitely took on a life of it's own. It turned out better than expected, although, there are some more things I would have liked to have been able to do. Like shooting on a boat in the middle of the ocean at night in a raging sea... but that's a whole different kind of budget. (Less)

Produced 2006 Motion picture from the beginning stages to the present - a documentation, a diagram; digital evidence of film's past and present. The digital collage shows scenes, frequencies of films from the beginning of film culture to the present time of the film industry. It contains all genres that have been used and brought into film material. This work shows different scenes of films in one big overview - built up through different layers; it gives a very compressed and intense picture of the subjects that films are made of. What it does is to irritate the viewer's eye, to confront him with the mass of film material that is already present in our times and has been used in the last couple of decades since the beginning of film. It reflects everything the film industry has used as themes and stories: from idols and gangsters, from the beautiful and the ugly to the serious issues of historic material as a film package, entertaining the public audience in some kind. Today we know the film and cinema as one huge entertainment sector, coming up with hundreds of new movies each year all around the globe. What it does is not only to entertain, but more often, to manipulate the viewer. The film industry portraits reality in black and white, good and evil; clichés, worlds the world dreams of. Film today is Reality TV, documentation, love boat, comedy and series about crime and investigation. It is a full-on program each day that is "spread" onto the streets of western and sub cultural habitats. DVD stores, cinemas and home TV are supplying us with floods of film material that a huge amount of people is consuming every day of their lives. This film collage by bello benischauer is looking into the massive film material available to us these days. It scans through the material and gives an idea about what is broadcasted throughout the world in one day. (Less)
