The YoungCuts Film Festival is North America's only international film festival whose primary purpose is to advance the careers of young filmmakers. The Festival is an event showcasing the best emerging filmmaking talent for both student film makers and non-student film makers. The Festival features all types of short films produced by people 25 years old and under, and was created to help launch talented young people's film and television careers, by providing exposure and recognition of their works.
In addition to the broad-based participation by young North American filmmakers, actors and actresses, the Festival encourages participation from young filmmakers around the world. Submission and selection criteria are available at http://www.youngcuts.com

This channel displays the best of the best. The YoungCuts Trailer gives you a small taste of what to expect, but I recommend going to the channel and exploring the videos for yourself. On average, they run at least six minutes long, so you'll need to set aside some time to watch.
My favorite documentary on the channel is Q'Oyllui Ritti. Filmmaker Carmen Forsberg's Peruvian video diary explores an annual journey in which homage is paid to "the god of the snow mountain." The journey is made poignant as we learn how it's being negatively affected by global warming. Another film, An Inconvenient Penguin Death March, tackles the issue of global warming in a more irreverent way. It won the Best Animated Film award at the 2007 Young Cuts festival.
What's most refreshing about the channel is the wide variety of topics the filmmakers explore. Only See Jack Die succumbs to the cliché that all young filmmakers make movies about suicide. Say What You Mean - Mean What You Say is the most highly recommended live-action video, while Archaic Blues is the best animated film. Youngcuts rules!
