Voyage is a cool little anime that won Honorable Mention in Animation in the 2008 Greater Philadelphia Student Film Festival.
The story, such as it is, is an abstract tale of a boy flying through the air while his grandmother waits on the ground below. Director Duong Tran captures the visceral rush of flight through complex sound design and images of passing clouds. The characters have the 2-D look of traditional anime. The most imaginative part is when the boy flies on the back of a manaray like it’s his own luck dragon. The movie doesn’t break any new ground, but it has vistas that will take your breath away.
