Guess what? Yes, it's Boivin again!

This time Openfilm is enriched by a new short by PatrickBoivin Ça Pis Tout l'Reste (This and everything else). With its script quality and direction this movie is in the range of such great films as Boivin's Radio and Le Queloune. It might even be better. And I am not alone in my praise. This film was chosen by Quebec Gold as one of the Top 10 short films from Quebec in 2008.

The author's genius and mastery is noticeable from the very first seconds of the movie, which takes place in a restaurant. Ça Pis Tout l'Reste (This and everything else) presents us with a story of a couple's trials and tribulations retold by two characters on advertisements in the newspaper. Boivin's never ending love of animation creates the special and ineffable atmosphere of the movie. The story tellers - a romantic barber and a pragmatic bartender – debate about the couple's relationship and whether the young lovers should stay together. Following their conversation we see past events that demonstrate the couple's ups and downs and we share their delight in love and sorrow of being on the edge of parting.

This movie captivates and carries the audience away with its simplicity on the one hand, and its brightness, emotional charge and complexity of the long-time question "What is love?" on the other hand. In the end, a love ballad sung by a guitar strumming kitchen worker brings humor to all and adds light to the events in the best traditions of classical cinematography.

Ça Pis Tout l'Reste (This and everything else) is definitely one of the best films by PatrickBoivin. With this short, he is one step closer to world-wide success and Hollywood recognition.
