SBIAF :: Lakdi ki Kathi SBIAF :: Sweet Robbery

This channel collects more than a dozen entries in the South Beach International Animation Festival. Most of them are exceptionally animated and kid-friendly videos.

Except, that is, for Hope Springs Eternal, a terrific trailer that nonetheless features one scene of adult naughty business. To give you an idea of the quality of this film, Openfilm could only display the trailer version because the full-length cut was being considered for the Academy Award for best animated short. It has rousing Gospel music and delirious editing. Lakdi Ki Kathi is at the other end of the spectrum, in that it should be seen exclusively by 2-year-olds. It features what sound like the Mexican Chipmunks singing a popular children's song.

Other films on the channel can be enjoyed by all. Monster For Sale resembles the opening animated sequence of How To Eat Fried Worms. In it, a bullied kid buys an annoying, misbehaving monster that has a few surprises. Sweet Robbery is a hilarious, Home Alone-like comedy in which the robbers encounter not a mischievous kid but an astonishingly resourceful granny. Mouse's Tale is the adorable tale of a country mouse named William. The soothing voiceover reminded me of my days watching PBS as a kid, while the inventive visual style replicates the look of a pop-up storybook.
