This series chronicles the indomitable spirit of one Mommy Menthol. Hard to tell these days, but it would appear that Ms. Menthol is played by a man. The series is about her raising two teenage daughters, though how the girls seem so "together" is beyond me, given that this woman is their mother. Chain-smoking Mommy spends half the time complaining about how she "needs a Menthol." She also needs a shave.
In this episode, Mommy suffers a fall and is rushed off to the hospital. There, she meets the dreamy Dr. Abraham Schwartz. Dreamy to her, at least. To me, he looks like an overweight middle-aged man. "Crabs, Ms. Menthol?" says Dr. Schwartz. He's referring to all-you-can-eat crabs, of course. Mommy insists that "Dr. Schwartz is a good one, and I'm gonna land'em," but her girls remain unconvinced.
I think the reason this series works is because of its lead actor (actress?), who consistently delivers an inspired comedic performance. She talks like Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors ("I swear to Gods!"), and her facial expressions are priceless. It's essentially a one-joke show, but the joke is good and the filmmakers tell it well.
