Love Hurts is a two-minute confection uploaded by The Dandy Dwarves, the geniuses who brought us Pencil Face and Gift of the Titan Smile. The most purely comedic of the bunch, Love Hurts takes a great, easy-to-understand idea and uses it to maximum effect.

All schoolchildren know the myth of the Roman god Cupid. That's apparently who we see sitting sleepily on a hillside, surrounded by red and pink roses, at the beginning of Love Hurts. He's a diapered man-baby with long blonde hair, a bow and many arrows. The rest of the film consists of attacks on random people as they're literally struck by Cupid's arrow - a sight that gets more haha funny each time we see it.

All Dandy Dwarves movies show a mastery of the filmmaking process on every level, and this one is no exception. But the most important thing is that it finds the right tone. The effect of the arrow going into people could have been horrifying, but instead it looks like Lazer tag. All of the attacks are filmed in single takes, showing people in everyday situations - a little girl skipping rope, a man cooking barbecue. So when the arrow suddenly flies into frame, it has a jolting impact. The cheerful score and the almost glowing quality of the cinematography contribute to the film's overall sunny mood.

The only sinister thing about Love Hurts is Cupid himself, who has a look of fierce determination every time he fires an arrow. There's something almost mean-spirited about doing this to people as they go about their day-to-day business. Love truly does hurt.
