This is a long teaser for the forthcoming feature-length film I.Q., directed by Aaron Keeling, Austin Keeling and Andrew Shafer. The description for the video says the film will be finished in two weeks, which means its makers will have completed a feature before graduating high school. Crazy.

It looks to be a slasher movie. A girl is trapped in an empty school and is being followed by an unseen threat. The first scene is a real stunner, with complicated lighting effects as well as practical effects that make it seem as though the bathroom stalls are opening on their own. Her attacker chases her through the gym and ultimately seals her inside a meat locker.

I’m guessing what we’re seeing here is similar to the opening sequence of Scream, where the first victim is claimed and then the story proper starts after that. The cinematography is top-notch. Check out the scene where a small ray of sunlight eerily illuminates a darkened hallway; or the absolutely amazing shot where a basketball bounces along the gym floor and the girl turns around to end the shot in a beautiful close-up. Chase Horseman’s music works like Jonny Greenwood’s score for There Will Be Blood, in that it builds tension from almost ambient sounds. Can’t wait to see the rest!
