This video is notable because it features a pre-Twilight performance by Robert Pattinson, he of the cereal box-shaped forehead and hordes of screaming teenage fans. It's only a trailer, not the actual film, but it shows more than enough promise to suggest this movie will be worth checking out whenever it becomes available.
How To Be is one of the roles Pattinson landed after his breakthrough performance as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. His facial features just about vibrate with life in that movie, which makes Cedric's fate all the more shocking. I found his performance in Twilight disappointing. All he had to do was stand there and look pallid and s*xy, which didn't require a lot in the way of acting chops from this 22-year-old performer.
His performance in How To Be looks like a return to form. At this point, his career trajectory may very well follow that of Hayden Christiansen's, a bewildering actor who delivers the goods in indie films like Life as a House and Shattered Glass but can't act worth s**t in Star Wars and Jumper. I hope not.
Here, he plays Art, a twenty-something kid who moves back in with his parents. Ah yes, I remember that. In fact, I just did it like a year ago. The movie looks timely, and has the same disenfranchised-indie-youth vibe as Thumbsucker and The Go-Getter. I also like the music. I did some digging around the Net and it looks like people who have seem this movie really like it, which portends better (if not bigger) things for the star of Twilight.
