I don't know if I like the marketing strategy for Camille, which basically boils down to giving everything away. From this trailer alone, we know that newlyweds Silas (James Franco) and Camille (Sienna Miller) get into a motorcycle accident on their honeymoon trip. Camille dies, but she stays with Silas until they reach Niagara Falls, where everything apparently turns out hunky-dory. No need to save any surprises for the movie, I guess.
Critics and audiences alike have long complained about trailers giving too much away. Filmmakers can also go too far in the other direction, as is the case with M. Night Shyamalan trailers, which reveal almost nothing about the plot. I think it's best to strike a balance between making too many revelations and not enough.
Having said that, this trailer does a good job of making Camille look like a fun, entertaining ride. The movie appears to be a mix of dark comedy and romance, with some sci-fi elements thrown in as well. Franco and Miller both look movie-star great. Prominent clips of Scott Glenn and David Carradine give the film an ensemble quality. There are also some striking visuals, like in Camille's death scene and the shot of her riding a painted horse.
Not sure about the release date on this one. The trailer says it opened in Austin, Texas on Nov. 14, but it hasn't opened anywhere else yet to my knowledge.
