Bradonio :: Project: B-Boy I KujoBradonio :: "Sorry... I'm Still Learning Italian"
Bradonio :: A Summer in TrevisoBradonio :: Moments that Matter - Disappear

The Bradonio channel showcases the eclectic body of work of director-editor-cameraman extraordinaire Brad Hasse. His movies feature a surprising, often clever use of special effects, wry takes on office culture, and an inquisitive interest in subcultures.

The best movie on the channel is Project: B-Boy ا Kugo. It's a 13-minute profile of world-renowned b-boy Jacob Lyons, better known as Krazy Kujo. B-boys are descendants of '80s break-dancing culture, in that they dance exclusively to the breaks of a song. Lyons makes for a good documentary subject. Not only is he relaxed in front of the camera, but he has an interesting story to tell. He's fully deaf in his right ear and 75% deaf in his left ear. That presents quite a challenge for an artist whose entire career rests on listening to music. Lyons reveals that he often goes by visual cues in the audience, picking up the beat of a song by seeing how people are bobbing their heads. The documentary is very well filmed. Notice the location Hasse chose to shoot his main interview with Lyons: on a street corner with a rich atmosphere of nightlife going on in the background.

Three films on the channel are concerned with office culture, and should appeal to fans of The Office and Office Space. Hey Ted... is about a guy trying to get home in enough time to impregnate his wife. It ends with a crazy dance number that goes something like: "Ovulation, sweet sensation!" The Moments That Matter series - Disappear and Time Machine - features two guys doing outrageous things around a water cooler. There are some really nifty effects in this series, and each film ends with an unexpected gag. These films have gotten a lot of hits on Openfilm, and it's easy to see why.

Two other films are about transient life overseas. In A Summer in Treviso, a writer and an artist fantasize about getting together but never do. Sorry... I'm Still Learning Italian is a brief comic confection about a guy who mixes up the words for "to leave quickly" and "go have s*x." Escape is a companion to B-Boy. In one great shot, we see a girl's reflection on the wet sidewalk as she dances in the rain.
