Back in October 2010, we told you the planned version to create a sequel to the mega-successful "Top Gun" starring Tom Cruise. The actor himself has stated that he wanted to do a sequel to take our breathe away one more time.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Peter Craig, the guy who wrote the suspenseful "The Town" directed by Ben Affleck has been tapped to pen the sequel for Paramount.

Craig, based on "The Town," is a good storyteller so this may just work! I'm wondering how Cruise's character will fit into the whole scenario.

Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Skydance Productions will produce the sequel. Until "Top Gun 2" is firmed up, we must first contend with a 3D re-release of the original which Paramount is intending to showcase in theaters this year.
