"The Lion King 3D" Roars Past Competition for Second Straight Week!

"The Lion King" remained the king of the box-office jungle for the second week. The Walt Disney reissue beat out Brad Pitt and a sweet dolphin to climb to the top. "The Lion King" remained the No. 1 movie in America with $22.1 million. So far, the film has taken $61.7 million since its re-release.

The Brad Pitt Oscar-bait, "Moneyball" debuted at No. 2 with $20.6 million. Based on the book by Michael Lewis, the author who gave us the previous Oscar-bait "The Blind Side," "Moneyball" became the biggest baseball movie ever to open! (Chris Pratt talks about "Moneyball")

Meanwhile, "Dolphin Tale" was saddled with a strong family film competition with "The Lion King" reissue but still managed to garner solid business with $20.3 million, debuting at No. 3. I enjoyed "Dolphin Tale" so I'm hoping families will get to experience the film in the next coming weeks. (Check out my "Dolphin Tale" movie review right here)

Taylor Lautner's first solo starring role, "Abduction," debuted at No. 4 with $11.2 million. Not the greatest opening, but Lionsgate should be able to recoup its investment with the action-thriller.
