"Puss in Boots" Helps Boost DreamWorks Animation Stocks!

Thanks to our favorite feline, DreamWorks Animation's shares soared 12 percent because of its stellar second-week performance!

Voiced by Antonio Banderas and distributed by Paramount Pictures, "Puss in Boots" held steady at No. 1 with a very little dip from its opening box-office total of $34.1 million. Last weekend, the fantastic film sold a total of $32.1 million tickets and pounced on "Tower Heist" and "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas!"

That left "Tower Heist" with an underwhelming performance of $25.1 million, and with a budget of $85 million, Universal has a looooong way to go to reclaim its budget and gasp, make profit! I did enjoy Eddie Murphy's performance though, he's back to being the Eddie Murphy we know and love, not the cute and cuddly Eddie Murphy.

Meanwhile, "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas" opened at No. 3 with $13.1 million, a few dollars shy of its $14.9 million opening for the previous sequel, "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay."

The good news for the film's distributor, Warner Bros., "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas" cost only $20 million to produce so the studio will see some profits very soon! Plus, 95% of the revenues came from 3D screenings of the film bucking down the recent downturn of three-dimensional produced films. Apparently, many folks want to get high by seeing 3D-induced pot smoke!

But the good news of the weekend belonged to Paramount and "Puss in Boots." When the film opened last week at just (I know right? Just!) $34 million, many insiders were quick to dismiss the power of the Puss! But last weekend, everyone breath a sigh of relief and hailed the magical Puss as Tinseltown's hero!

But wait, there's more! "Puss in Boots" has already made a total of $115 million worldwide, so...meow!
