"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" Sails Past Competition BUT Lower Than Third "Pirates!"

Sure, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" opened big, very big, and was even a record-holder internationally with $256.3 million beating 2009's "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" which earned $236 million.

But domestically, the franchise's fourth film debuted with $90.1 million, much lower than the third movie "At World's End" which opened with $114.7 million in 2007. Prior to that, the second film, "Dead Man's Chest" opened with $135.6 million in 2006. You can tell that the debut numbers have been slipping film after film (the new one was even in 3D), is this a sign that audiences, perhaps, are getting tired of the "Pirates" films?

But apparently, producer Jerry Bruckheimer already has a script in the works for a fifth "Pirates" so maybe not!

Meanwhile, "Bridesmaids" proved that it has longevity! The super-funny comedy starring Kristen Wiig placed No. 2 at the box-office with $21 million, a small slip of just 20 percent from last weekend's $26.2 million box-office take. Previous weekend's box-office champ, "Thor" fell to No. 3 with $15.5 million. So far, its domestic total was $145.4 million. ("Thor" interviews with Chris Hemsworth, director Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hiddleston, Kat Dennings, and Jaimie Alexander)
