"Paranormal Activity 3" Scares Competition, Debuts at No. 1 with $54 Million!

"Paranormal Activity" the franchise is a certifiable hit! The third installment of the popular series scared up $54 million at the box-office to debut at No. 1. ("Paranormal Activity 3" movie review click here, "Paranormal Activity 3" giveaway)

Budgeted at $5 million, "Paranormal Activity 3" had the biggest debut ever for a horror movie! "Paranormal Activity 2" held the crown when it opened a year ago with $40.7 million. "Paranormal Activity 3" also beat the record previously held by another Paramount film, "Jackass 3D" which had the biggest opening ever for an October release.

Not anymore. Sorry "Jackass" folks, but Katie and Kristi and their invisible friend Toby are now the box-office champs!

Falling to the No. 2 spot is "Real Steel." The Hugh Jackman-actioner made $11.3 million, and so far has sold $153.3 million in box-office tickets worldwide!

Not having a great weekend was Summit and Universal. Summit's "The Three Musketeers" under-performed with $8.8 million entering at No. 4. Universal's "Johnny English Reborn" starring Rowan Atkinson as the bumbling spy only mustered $3.8 million to debut at No. 8...yikes!

But the bright, shining light at the box-office universe is the psychological thriller "Martha Marcy May Marlene." Buoyed by the strong performance of Elizabeth Olsen, the film made $137,541 in just four screens in New York and Los Angeles! That's $34,385 per screen y'all! Congrats!
