All Hail "Transformers: Dark of the Moon!"

As predicted, Optimus Prime and Megatron ruled our Independence Day weekend! "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" took the No. 1 spot despite critical drubbing. ("Transformers: Dark of the Moon" movie review)

The Michael Bay extravaganza took in $97.5 million at the box office from Friday to Sunday and set a new Independence Day weekend record. If you include Monday, "Transformers 3" has made $116.4 million. But wait there's more! Include its opening night on Tuesday and we have a whopping domestic total of $181.1 million! And factor in its overseas total of $217.9 million and Paramount's franchise has sold $399 million worth of box-office tickets.

"Transformers" will remain with us for a very long time!

Meanwhile, Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts did not have a good weekend. Their latest romantic comedy, "Larry Crowne," tanked at the box-office with just $15.7 million landing at No. 4.

Selena Gomez also did not have a good weekend. Her new movie, "Monte Carlo," debuted at No. 6 with just $8.8 million.
