The underdog boxing family drama, "Real Steel," was the undisputed champ at the weekend box-office! The winning film, starring Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo as a father-son underdog team, debuted at No. 1 with $27.3 million.

Moviegoers wanted to be scared over the weekend and pushed "Contagion" to the top! The pandemic thriller from Warner Bros. debuted at No. 1 with $23.1 million. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the star-studded affair featured Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Marion Cotillard.

It was a storm-soaked box-office weekend with the wrath of Hurricane Irene affecting box-office results and helping "The Help" weather competition from new films.

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" did not monkey around at the North American box office over the weekend. The prequel to the popular series starring James Franco, Freida Pinto, and Andy Serkis claimed the top spot bowing at No. 1 with $54 million, about $15 million to $20 million more than expected.
