"True Grit" Tops Cinema Audio Society Awards!

"True Grit" shot down "Black Swan," "Inception," "Shutter Island," and "The Social Network" to win Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing at the 47th annual CAS Awards given by the Cinema Audio Society.

"The Social Network" is the Best Edited Dramatic Feature According to ACE Eddie Awards

"The Social Network" editors, Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter, won the ACE Eddie Award for Best Edited Dramatic Feature at the 61st Annual ACE Eddie Awards. The David Fincher film beat "Black Swan," "The Fighter," "Inception," and "The King's Speech." We'll see if "The Social Network" will beat those movies (except for "Inception" which was not nominated in favor of "127 Hours") at the upcoming 83rd Academy Awards.

Film Short: This Writing Panel is Right On!

Anyone interested in writing for either film or television had to see the panel featuring Daniel Petrie, Jr. (Beverly Hills Cop, The Big Easy), Tony Blake (Charmed) and Timothy Dowling (Role Models) at the 2010 Campus Moviefest in Las Vegas. The trio offered screenwriting tips and industry information during their one hour Q&A and shared a number of personal anecdotes.

Configuring a 21st Century Camera Crew – Pt. 2

The second part of The Twenty-First Century Camera Crew and How it Works, which was produced in Association with the International Cinematographers Guild, and proved to be one of the most interesting panels I attended. David Geffner, The Executive Editor of ICG Magazine moderated the panel made up of Lewis Rothenberg, Digital Imaging Technician, TNS Productions, Inc.; Andy Romanoff, Technical Marketing and Strategy Executive, Panavision; Steven Poster, President, ICG, Director of Photography, International Cinematographers Guild; Jason Clark, Producer, Ways & Means Productions; Rodney Charters, who spent nine years as the Director of Photography on the hit Fox Television show "24" and special speaker Gale Tattersall, DP from another Fox Television show "House". This may be the longest article I’ve written for this blog, but I believe is worth the read.
