The creative duo of director J.J. Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg catapulted "Super 8" into the top with a $35.5 million debut! The film, one of my favorites this summer, opened at No. 1 bumping "X-Men: First Class" to well, second class in its second weekend.

Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence makes her first big Hollywood film with "X-Men: First Class." She plays Raven/Mystique, a mutant who learns how to be proud with her powers.

And like a good movie buff or a Marvel geek, I sat through the credits for the always-dependable hidden scene at the end.

The time is 1962, John F. Kennedy is our president, and his biggest problems are the Cold War and the impending Cuban Missile Crisis. But who knew that the X-Men mutants were part of that American history?

This looks intriguing! I like director Matthew Vaughn's work ("Stardust, " "Kick-Ass, " "Layer Cake "), so I have great faith that this film will be good, at least better than the last entry into the franchise, "X-Men: The Last Stand, " from director Brett Ratner (I'm not counting the "Wolverine" film since it's an Origins franchise).

Our friends at Collider posted this first image of the cast of "X-Men: First Class." Are you interested in this Matthew Vaughn-directed film? I enjoyed "Kick-Ass" so I have faith that Vaughn will take this franchise higher!
