Just a heads up, I'm rooting for Christopher Plummer to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for "Beginners." Sure, it's a "career award" for him, but watch the movie and you will see a portrayal of a deeply conflicted man who suddenly finds freedom after coming out of the closet.

American versions of foreign films are almost always put in the position of having to swagger onto the scene, justifying their existence almost before they even exist.
