This August it will be 20 years since Kevin Smith discovered his passion for filmmaking and it’s obvious that this milestone has been on his mind, especially listening to the way he spoke to the crowd gathered around him at the AVID booth during the NAB show last April.

One of the words that comes up with increasing frequency in the world of indie filmmaking, television and other forms of entertainment is transmedia. For some, it seems like a viable option for audience building and extending the reach of a project, while others seem reluctant to take that leap and try including it.

Not exactly, but although the two stars are not actually on the speaker list, two of their most recent films will most certainly be represented in the Content Theater during the 2011 NAB show coming to Las Vegas from April 9th through the 14th.

The 2011 NAB Show, which is the world’s largest event for video, audio and digital media professionals, will be coming back to Las Vegas from April 9th through the 14th at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Once again, I will have the pleasure of seeing new products, checking out the technology pavilions and covering the super sessions and conferences that I think will be of particular interest to independent filmmakers. From what I’m reading so far, content is going to be king and all aspects of it are going to be explored including how it relates to lifestyle, creation, management, commerce, distribution and delivery.

The Content Theater at NAB 2010 featured several interesting panels. Among them were back to back discussions with the technical teams of the 3D hit movies "Alice in Wonderland " and "How to Train Your Dragon ". The Alice in Wonderland: Turning Art Fantasy into Motion Picture Reality panel was on stage first and featured moderator Christina Giardina, journalist from The Hollywood Reporter; Executive Vice President of Visual Effects and Production for The Walt Disney Studios; Ken Ralston, the movie's multi Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor; stereographer Corey Turner and Tom Peitzman, co-producer/visual effects producer for the film.
